Move Your Domain with Confidence

Move an eligible domain to a new registrar with a clear checklist and practical guidance.

Move your domain with a planned process

A domain transfer changes the registrar responsible for managing a domain. Businesses may consider a transfer to consolidate services, simplify administration or work with a provider that better fits their needs. Transfer rules differ by domain extension, and not every domain is immediately eligible.

Before you request a transfer

  • Confirm the domain is eligible and not blocked by a recent registration or transfer restriction.
  • Ensure the registrant email address is accessible.
  • Unlock the domain at the current registrar if required.
  • Obtain the authorisation code (also called an EPP or transfer code) when the extension uses one.
  • Check the domain's expiry date and renew it if necessary before starting.
  • Review DNS records and keep a copy of current settings.

Will a transfer interrupt my website?

A registrar transfer does not always require a change to your website hosting or nameservers. However, incorrect DNS changes or expired services can affect website and email availability. Keep your existing hosting active while the transfer is processed and ask for help if you are unsure about DNS settings.
